Welcome Reception

The official program for the Conference begins with a casual cocktail function in the Newcastle Region Art Gallery.
This is the first opportunity to reconnect with old colleagues and to make new connections. The Gallery will be featuring the exhibitions Gallery A Sydney 1964-1983 and Poets Paint Words II.

MAPDA Awards Date:

Having not been held in 2008, the 2009 MAPDA awards are sure to be a ‘big night out’!.
Enjoy some light canapés to start the evening, before being seated in the Concert Hall to enjoy the presentations of the 2008 and 2009 winners of Museums Australia Publication Design Awards.

Evening Function Date:

Enjoy the opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues in the historic surroundings of the former workshops of the Great Northern Railways and future site of the Newcastle Museum.
The night will feature the inaugural ‘Museum Olympics’ - a fun way to celebrate and laugh at all the serious jobs in our field. Fantastic entertainment on the night by Newcastle’s kings of swing and masters of funk, Fish Fry.

Museum Olympics

It takes many different skills to effectively run a museum, from hands-on collection management to the wooing of sponsors.
We celebrate our design achievements in the MAPDAs, but what about other museum roles? Teams of five will compete across four tasks before the conference via email and two on the evening of the Conference evening function to win the coveted gold, silver and bronze gloves.
